Spring is in the air...or is that pollen?

Mud, windy days, sunshine and rain, Spring is always a welcome time of renewal and freedom.

Are you ready for a little spring re-fresh??

How about oral sprays, self-care and mindfulness? That’s what this month’s Wellness Wednesdays have in store for you so, fill up those diffusers, grab your favorite wellness drink, and let’s get started!

Spring may be beautiful but it can be a bit of a challenge with those acute respiratory needs that pop up, too. These simple rollers and sprays will make the season much easier for you…and your nose…

Changing Seasons Oral Spray

Let me introduce you to your new springtime companion that will give your respiratory system a little TLC.

We know using oils topically and diffusing them are great health habits, but there is even more benefit in using them on the mucous membrane areas, including your mouth.

* 1 drop each Lavender Vitality, Copaiba Vitality, Peppermint Vitality
* 2 drops Orange Vitality, Lemon Vitality
* Splash Thieves Mouthwash, optional
* Filtered water

Add all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake well. Spritz into your mouth daily or as desired!

Raindrop Oral Spray

This definitely won’t take the place of a Raindrop session, but sometimes your defenses need a little extra boost, and this combination of oils is a go-to when you need something a little ‘more.'

* 10mL glass spray bottle (https://amzn.to/3CAxsnI
* 1 drop each Oregano Vitality, Thyme Vitality, Peppermint Vitality, Basil Vitality
* 2 drops Lemon Vitality, Orange Vitality
* Splash Olive Oil
* Filtered Water

Add all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake well. Spritz into your mouth daily or as desired. Note: this one may tingle a bit, similar to OTC throat sprays.

Raindrop Roller

This roller is an easy way to harness the power of Raindrop with easy application. I prefer to layer the individual Raindrop oils on the bottoms of my feet, getting the most frequency out of each of the oils instead of averaging them together in a roller, but that’s my personal preference right now. I have used this roller for years and I was never disappointed.

* 10mL roller bottle (https://amzn.to/3H3jBZ4
* 10 drops each Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Marjoram, Cypress, Peppermint, Wintergreen, Aroma
Siez, Lavender, Valor
* Fill with carrier oil of choice

Apply over lymph nodes, along spine, bottom of the feet as desired

DIY Nasal Rinse

Grab your Neti-pot and whip up your own oil-infused sinus rinse!

* 10 drops Lavender essential oil
* 15 drops Copaiba essential oil
* 8 Tbsp of ultra fine salt (unprocessed, no iodine)

Mix well and store in a sealed glass jar. To use, dissolve 1 tsp of salt mixture into 1&1/2 cups of distilled water (or water from a Berkey filter or boil and cool some water), then add to your Neti pot and use as needed.

DIY Season's Change Capsules

Make using your Vitality oils easy with this simple hack!

* 2oz glass dropper bottle
* 30 drops each Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Copaiba Vitality
* Olive oil to desired dilution (about 2 Tbsp)

When you're ready to make a capsule, fill an empty vegetable capsule with a dropperful of the blend and take as desired.

Sinus Support Steam Pot

When you're needing some relief from the pressure that spring can cause your sinuses, give this tried and true trick a go!
* Bowl of very hot, steaming water
* 2-3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
* 2-4 drops Dorado Azul Essential Oil

Add essential oils to the water (start with the lower end and add more as desired). Place a towel over your head and sit with your head above the steam bath to open the airways.

Happy Noses Roller

This is a great roller to use anytime you need some sinus relief, but I’ve heard it is pretty great after doing the sinus steam pot!

* 10mL roller bottle (https://amzn.to/3H3jBZ4
* 20 drops each Dorado Azul, Idaho Blue Spruce
* 10 drops DiGize, R.C.
* 5 drops Peppermint

Roll over your sinus cavities as desired. Take care when using near your eyes and dilute more if needed. If you get it too close to your eyes, simply apply coconut oil over the area.

Is health truly expensive??

Sharing some wisdom from the great guys at Oily App today.

Health is simple…it isn’t always easy, but it’s simple. It’s a choice…every day, every meal, every product, every shopping trip.

Your body already wants to function properly. Are you helping or hindering it?

Get this…you’re more likely to be contaminated inside your home than outside of it! Stay with me here...

Have you heard of the 1976 Toxic Controlled Substances Act? No? Let me ask you this:  How many members of our federal government or members of congress do you think have studied chemicals and toxins??

This act did a few things.
  1. If a toxic chemical was already being used, it was allowed in without rigorous safety testing – they were grandfathered in, no matter how good or harmful they might be.
  2. The animal testing criteria was if half of the animals did not die when creating/using/testing the product, the chemical could be put in products you put in your mouth, use in your house, on your children, etc. It’s a little strange…not really a responsible baseline and we have no idea what they were thinking but…
  3. That other “f” word - fragrance - it’s the junk drawer for chemicals and toxins. If you see that F word anywhere – remember that it is a code word that means it is a patented chemical concoction of stuff and they don’t have to tell you what it is because it’s a trade secret.
Greenwashing is tricky savvy marketing. The personal care industry is estimated to be a hundreds of billion dollar (650+) industry within the next few years and huge percentage of that is estimated to be “green”.  I was a Mrs. Meyers user until I learned that it is owned by a big company, is not organic, is marketed as healthy…but it is not…

Sadly, you have to research and be your own best advocate for you and your family. But that’s what I’m here to help with. It is so important that you know the source of your favorite products and that you can thoroughly trust them to have your best interest first. Product and people over profit is hard to find these days.

Let’s talk about areas you are likely to find toxins in your house right now…

*1.  Personal care – Hair, skin, lotion, deodorant, wrinkle cream, toothpaste, shampoo, hairspray…generally stuff you use daily to help you look better, feel clean, smell good…it’s not just the ladies! Aftershave, shaving cream, deodorant, beard oil for the guys... Most of that stuff has warning labels. Do you read them?  Toothpaste – harmful if swallowed - it’s in your mouth – even adults swallow some. Not to mention, fluoride is a well-known neurotoxin and several studies have shown that children exposed to it had a lower IQ and suffered impairment in neurological development…

Remember half the animals had to not die….anything that goes on your skin goes into your body. Your skin is your biggest organ, but it is full of holes. Skin is porous. If it goes on, it goes in – you put something on your skin, 20-30 seconds later it is in your body...doesn't matter if the substance is harmful or good for you. It works the same way.

*2. Vitamins and supplements. Several years ago ingredients in big box retailers products were studied and it was found that some products had unrecognizable DNA in it…that’s code for trash. Spam and  bologna…are just a conglomeration of things…you ate it, caused you to poop, went right through you…same with Flintstones kids vitamins - just candy colors and sugar…Centrum vitamins have been found in septic systems completely whole...

Profit first is the cheapest way possible to produce products. Nutrition shakes,  Ensure - we give these to people who are sick, but there is more sugar in those than in  many candy bars, just empty dead calories we think are healthy. But remember, just because a product is in the store or says it is healthy, doesn’t mean it really is.

*3. Household cleaning supplies. Household products are loaded with fragrances. Febreeze was designed to get rid of pet odors, but no one wanted it when it was first tested because…it had no smell, so they added the scent to drive the smell up. If it smells clean, it is clean right?? No! Remember the toxins thanks to the Toxic Substances Control Act, fragrance, and half animals not dying…

*4. Scents and smells – candles, air fresheners, crazy sprays and aerosols, plug ins, burners, smells meant to make you happy or feel a certain way…are full of toxic chemicals, but also be careful of fake essential oils.  Yup, synthetics can be  labeled as essential oils. Nothing says the oil has to be pure from nature…it can be purely synthetic, too. You get what pay for…and all oils not created equal…

If you think health is expensive, take a look at cost of not being healthy…You can pay some now or whole lot later. Tell me, is it cheaper to change oil in your car now than to not change the oil and then end up replacing the motor when it blows up?

We spend money on candles, products to clean our house, on vitamins, supplements, toothpaste, shampoo, 15 cleaning cocktails, make up, and more…The cost of change is simply the hassle of making the change itself.

Here’s the deal with ditch and switch, YL has 600 plus products…CBD, cleaning products, supplements, personal care, insect repellent, pancake mix,  snack bars, baby products, pet products and so much more.  Simply take the money you are spending in the big box stores and spend it on healthy alternatives instead, from  your very own online store!  No need to find new money! You just don’t buy any more dryer sheets…use dryer balls instead...those dryer sheets are toxin when they are heated. Thieves laundry detergent is so concentrated it lasts a super long time. That Thieves cleaner is just .69 a bottle once you break down the cost and just one bottle of oil will last so much longer than that candle and will support your body’s health instead of destroying it. What about bath bombs or shower steamers?  Simply put oil on washcloth, rub on floor of shower for relaxing spa shower or put some oil in Epsom salt and put in your bath!

Health is not easy, it requires discipline,  but it’s simple. You can change the health and wellness of your family by just making one decision at a time, even if they are small decisions. They say  the only way to eat an elephant is in small bites...Lock arms with me and my community and together we can bring tremendous change and blessing in your family and those you love. That’s what I’m here for.

Share three areas in your health or lifestyle that you would like to change and let’s work together and start making those small changes.

Do you know about the other "F" word??

If you take a look at the label on a few of your favorite smelling products, you'll often find the word ‘fragrance' in the ingredients. But what is fragrance, or as I like to call it, “the other F word”…?

Fragrance chemicals are organic compounds that vaporize into the air, which is why we can smell them. They are added to household and personal care products to give them a scent or even to mask the odor of other ingredients. Unfortunately, those volatile organic chemicals (VOCs - think the smell of paint or paint thinner) can contribute to poor indoor air quality and are connected with a variety of adverse health effects. They are pretty much the last thing you want in a product you are burning or spraying for ambiance or to make your home smell "clean".

But it gets a little bit worse….

To protect trade secrets, makers are allowed to withhold “fragrance” ingredients, so you can't read the labels to find out what dangers those festive scented candles (and room sprays.. and plugs ins…and burners...and perfumes.. and cosmetics…) may contain. This is called the “fragrance loophole” in federal labeling law. Although all other ingredients in your scented household and personal care products must be disclosed on the label by their specific name, this loophole allows ingredients that are added to provide a pleasant scent, or to mask a bad one, only need to be listed under the generic term “fragrance.”

 The Environmental Working Group (EWG) says that many popular candles and room sprays contain trace amounts of “natural essences”. They also typically contain a dozen or more potentially hazardous synthetic chemicals, some of which are derived from petroleum.

According to the EWG, “Exposure to fragrance chemicals can cause headaches; eye, nose, and throat irritation; nausea; forgetfulness; loss of coordination; and other respiratory and/or neurotoxic symptoms. Many fragrance ingredients are respiratory irritants and sensitizers, which can trigger asthma attacks and aggravate sinus conditions.”

One harmful ingredient in “fragrance”, is styrene. A 2011 finding by the National Toxicology found that it is “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.”

We know only that styrene might be an ingredient in any given fragrance because the International Fragrance Association, an industry trade group, publishes an online “Transparency List” (https://ifrafragrance.org/priorities/sustainability#.U9qfRoBdVss) of ingredients that perfumers say they use in formulas for consumer products. Styrene is one of the 3,000 or so ingredients on the list.

 When you add up the number of products in your bathroom cabinets and under your kitchen sink that contain “fragrance”,  this could be many exposures to substances  “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.”

THIS is why I am so passionate about ditching conventional products and switching to clean, effective and safe options! Young Living NEVER uses fragrance in their products - they don't even need to because of the products are infused with the highest quality oils which not only give the fragrance but help support your health and even your emotions.

Convention starts Thursday! Be watching for new products to be launched!! What would you like to see??
